A few days before Harvey hit the Gulf coast, it became obvious that there was going to be damage to the electrical grid where I live. Since a warm breeze with a few cups of water falling from the sky usually results in either a total loss of electricity or the lights flicking on and off, I decided to perform maintenance on my flashlight collection. This was going to take a few hours due the size of it and decided to hit a local store for batteries. After all, who knew how long we\u2019d be without lights. While there I discovered one of the most amazing flashlights. This particular light wouldn\u2019t be possible without modern LEDs. There really isn\u2019t anything else on the market like it. An ordinary flashlight projects a focused beam, or if it has an adjustable lens, it may be a bit broader at the substantial sacrifice of light output. This light by \u201cDorcy\u201d (Model #: 41-4346<\/a>) has the focused beam (with four smaller LED\u2019s) and on each<\/em> side of the main powerful LED are 16 smaller SMT<\/a> LEDs sending out a wash of remarkably bright light spread out to 220 degrees. It even has a “dimmer” mode if necessary.<\/p>\n

With the absurd ratings that all manufacturers use to rate brightness (this one is Dorcy-rated at 850 lumens), I\u2019ll skip that discussion for the moment and just say it\u2019s exceptionally bright. Enough to shame any Maglight in existence. If you need more light than this, you’re going to need a spotlight. It\u2019s been said it\u2019s perfect for the security business due to almost no dark areas in front of you \u2026 I have to agree. Most people need a small flashlight and a more serious one every now and then. Well, this is the flashlight for that \u201cevery now and then.\u201d I\u2019d go so far to say this is the \u201cKing of Flashlights\u201d and is the one flashlight everyone should own. Yeah, it\u2019s a bit heavy due the quality aluminum body and it\u2019s not cheap at almost 60 bucks directly from Dorcy. (Mine was about $35 at Fry\u2019s at the time) But once you use it, you can legitimately say, \u201cI\u2019ve seen the light!\u201d<\/p>\n
