They\u2019ve called this show as the \u201cYear of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/5G\">5G<\/a>\u201d. But in reality, there was almost nothing at the show to back it up, not the least of which is the fact that 5G isn\u2019t available except in minuscule areas of the US. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a single item defined the show, it was partial\/full self-driving auto technology along with its accompanying infotainment systems. Literally, there were almost an entire hall\u2019s worth of car makers, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lidar\">LIDAR<\/a> companies and other car navigation related tech \u2026 this would have been great had this been the Detroit Auto Show. But it isn\u2019t, and it\u2019s not. Everything they showed wouldn\u2019t work in \u201creal life\u201d. This is the reason why there have been so many deaths in Teslas while in the self-driving mode. The sensors hanging off the cars to make them function better than Tesla system are actually dangerous to pedestrians or look so absurd as to be a central character in a Japanese animated cartoon. \u00a0In complete seriousness, it reminded me of a \u201cTransformer\u201d movie car with huge spinning sensors on the roof and projections sticking out of the car sides. It would have been comical if it were supposed to be a joke. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This kind of display doesn\u2019t inspire confidence in the tech \u2026\nthey\u2019d be better off if they had stayed away and didn\u2019t show everyone just how\nfar they had to go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As usual, the establishment tech-reporting media got it wrong \u2026 and they missed it by a mile this time.
