{"id":736,"date":"2013-01-10T16:17:52","date_gmt":"2013-01-10T22:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecaffeinatedgeek.com\/?p=736"},"modified":"2018-12-17T18:16:13","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T00:16:13","slug":"cbs-and-freedom-of-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecaffeinatedgeek.com\/?p=736","title":{"rendered":"CBS and Freedom of Speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At each CES there is a winner chosen by CNET.com that is (in their opinion) the best of show.<\/p>\n<p>This year was a first \u2026 CNET was literally forced into changing their selection by their owners.<\/p>\n<p>CNET chose the new satellite receiver \u201cThe Hopper\u201d as its &#8220;best in show.&#8221; As it turns out, CNET is owned by CBS,\u00a0 who is suing the satellite TV company \u201cDish Network\u201d that builds that unit. The suit is based on the convenience that allows its users to jump past annoying commercials. Believe it or not, CBS says that is a criminal act. As you may have read in my previous blogs, I talk about how the providers of content are doing everything they can to stifle innovation. This common-sense technology was invented by \u201cReplay TV\u201d well over a decade ago. And it\u2019s as warmly received now as it was then.\u00a0 So, according to CBS if you manually jump past commercials on a DVR on which you have recorded material, it\u2019s OK, \u2026 but if the machine does it for you, it\u2019s stealing \u2026 go figure.<\/p>\n<p>And this is from a company who constantly touts its &#8220;Dan Ratherish&#8221; liberal beliefs, justifies it with the constant use of the phrases &#8220;freedom of the press&#8221; and &#8220;freedom of speech&#8221; to say anything it wants, even it&#8217;s patently wrong or blatantly biased.<\/p>\n<p>I can only guess those &#8220;good liberal&#8221; beliefs don&#8217;t extend to its employees or customers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At each CES there is a winner chosen by CNET.com that is (in their opinion) the best of show.
